SW Design School, LLC was established in 1997 as VLC Technical Training, providing web and graphic design tutoring services to Union Leaders in Michigan. The founders saw an opportunity to expand their services to anyone interested in learning the industry, with the aim of helping business owners save money on marketing materials. Over time, the school grew to become a leader in entrepreneurial, web, and graphic design courses.
In 2011, SW Design School, LLC became an online-only trade school, improving the quality of education for students across the country. In 2015, the organization became SW Design School, L3C, a low-profit limited liability company that partners with non-profit organizations to support low-income families, at-risk youth, K-12 students, ex-offenders, and incarcerated inmates. The school provides one-on-one attention to students with Internet access and offers graphic design services to clients at a more affordable cost.
Between 2018 and 2019, SW Design School LLC became a State-Approved apprenticeship program in several states. The school has also partnered with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program to provide training to transitioning service members across the United States.
In 2020, SW Design School L3C (LLC) became a National Apprenticeship Program, certifying computer programmers and graphic designers nationwide. The school is headquartered in Michigan and has K-12 Coders STEM Camp facilities owned and operated by veterans throughout the country and internationally.
